4th Annual Artists Open Studio Tour:

Once again our Annual Artists Open Studio Tour was a huge success. Brochures with maps and a description of each artist are still available to be downloaded from our website.
This event is juried and open to artists who maintain a studio in Wayne County. This year's tour was scheduled for the weekend of August 25-27, 2006. Each studio was open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day of the tour. Our Studio Tour gives the public a unique opportunity to see the artist in their own environment, ask them questions about their art, and take advantage of studio prices. In addition, this year we experimented with something new. A sample of each participating artist's work was on display at the Central Park Gallery in Honesdale. This was a huge hit with over 400 people coming through over the weekend tour. Participant surveys were very complimentary and we thank everyone who helped to organized this event. We can't wait to do it again next year!

Each year WCAA sponsors our Public Art Project. This year 60 Local Businesses sponsored artists to decorate a 2' Tall Birdhouse. Designed by Jeff George, built by the Human Resource Center and decorated by local Wayne Co. artists, 66 birdhouses were unveiled on May 26th during the Memorial Day Weekend festivities. Over the summer, the artists' creations were displayed at each of their business sponsor location. A map and brochure was printed of all the locations listing the artists name and the sponsor name and address. Many people enjoyed tours of the birdhouses along Main Street and driving throughout Wayne County to visit each one. On August 19th at the Texas No. 4 Fire Hall on Grove Street in Honesdale, WCAA auctioned each chair off to the highest bidder. This year was our most successful fundraiser yet! We are so thrilled with the support of our community. Proceeds of this event goes towards funding arts and cultural programs in Wayne County. Over 200 people were in attendance!

Quarterly Members Meeting:

On July 26th, our Summer Quarterly Members Meeting was held at 7 p.m. at the Fireside Restaurant on 191 N. in Honesdale. At our Members Meetings, the Board reports to the membership on events, programs and future goals. It is always enjoyable for us to hear our members comments and suggestions. And everyone agrees, the Fireside is a great place to have our meetings and stay after to enjoy our Open Mic Nights.

Monday Night Movies at Cinema 6 Opening Month of June:

At approximately 8 p.m. each Monday night the Movie Theater in the Route 6 Plaza opened its doors to show a feature film. The films showcased are listed below. Ted Malakin, our movie coordinator, gave a short presentation before each film. We had a great crowd each night and lots of interesting discussions afterwards. The WCAA is very excited to work with Cinema 6 in continuing to bring independent, classic and foreign films to the big screen in Honesdale.

Monday Night Movies is an ongoing throughout the year excluding the months of July and August.

Here's what we played for June:

June 5th "Easy Rider" (1969). Released in the summer of love, this is the film that defined the sixties. A simple story of two modern cowboys searching for the American Dream. Directed by Dennis Hopper.

June 12th "Msr. Houlot's Holiday" (1953). In French with English Subtitles. Take a wonderfully lazy, 50s Friend vacation with possibly one of the most human character to ever grace the silver screen. Directed by Jaques Tati.

June 19th "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968). Mans journey through earth, the cosmos and beyond. Directed by Stanley Kubrick.

There was no showing on June 26th.

Roots and Rhythm Music and Art Festival:

Cosponsored by the Greater Honesdale Partnership and the WCAA, Roots and Rhythm was our first annual American Roots Music Festival. To kick-off the festival, local musicians performed on Main Street in downtown Honesdale starting at 10:30 a.m. The main event was held in Central Park from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please check the concert website for more info on this year's recap and plans for next year.

Fifteen local artists displayed everything from puppets to handmade aprons. The Children's Table was very popular where children and their parents had the opportunity to decorate their own minature birdhouses.

Honesdale High School Senior Exhibit:

This year's graduating artists had the opportunity to exhibit their work before heading off to college. Central Park Gallery and WCAA offered this unique opportunity for our young artists to become familiar with putting on their own gallery show. The Opening Night was held at the Central Park Gallery in Honesdale on June 2 and the show hung till June 11th. During the graduation week, many families had the chance to visit the gallery to see their young artists accomplishments.
