First Friday:

This incredibly successful event ran from May to December 2005. On the First Friday of each month, an artist or a group of artists displayed their work for a one night "opening" from 6-9 p.m. The openings were held at the Central Park Gallery on Church Street in Honesdale thanks to the generosity of Jerry and Marilyn Swendsen, gallery owners. First Friday provided our artists with a venue to showcase theirs works and also provided the public the opportunity to gather once a month and view local art and meet the artists. Openings were accompanied with music, refreshments and lots of fun. Thanks also to Trix Render and David Justice for all their work in making this project a success.

Short Readings:

David Wolf reading his poem

The fall series of our Short Reading Evenings came to a close on Saturday, November 26th. And what a great turnout for the close of the season! Throughout the fall, friends shared with us their short stories, poems, intimate essays, songs, musical numbers and much more. We are thrilled to provide our Literary Artists with a venue to share and listen. Please plan ahead to attend the Spring 2006 Short Readings. Look for info in our March or April Newsletters.

"Better Half Dead":

On November 5th, 2005 the Lakeside Players and WCAA once again collaborated on a special theater event that took place in the Community Hall Route 590, Lakeville. Lakeside Players presented their fall main stage production of "Better Half Dead", a comedy thriller by Joan Torres with a special discounted admission to WCAA members on that evening. The play was performed to a packed house with 70 in attendance. The performance was wonderfully hilarous and very professionally executed. We are grateful and excited to have such a talented group of actors in our local area.

Writers Conference:

A wonderful crowd of attentive writers

On Saturday, October 22, twenty local writers gathered at the Wayne County Visitor's Center for the second annual WCAA writer's conference. A special thanks to Sandra Meagher for organizing another successful Writers Conference and to all the lecturers and participants. This is a very successful and well received event which we hope to continue and keep as one of our staple annual events.

Open Mic Night:

Our Open Mic Night is an ongoing project in collaboration with the Fireside Restaurant. Every Wednesday night musicians of all types are encouraged to take the stage and perform a few numbers. While providing constant entertainment for the usually packed house, artists have an opportunity to gain confidence on the stage with a very friendly and welcoming audience. Thanks goes out to our event coordinator, John Rocklin.

Third Annual Open Studio Tour:

Throughout the weekend of August 26-28, 2005, Nineteen Wayne County Studios were opened to the public for the rare opportunity to tour artist's private studio and take advantage of special tour prices. We are thrilled with the ongoing success of our Open Studio Tours. The WCAA has expanded in bringing many different activities to our area, but the Studio Tour is and was our staple event. It benefits both artists and the community and this is what the WCAA strives to do. Many studios saw over 300 people in the course of the three day weekend. Special thanks goes out to our Studio Tour Coordinator, Michael O'Neill, his committee, and all the tour artists. And last but not least, all the tour participants who enjoyed visiting our Wayne County Artists! We hope to see you next year!

Wayne County Seats 2005:

Sold! Our auctioneer and chair handlers.

That's quite a crowd!

Thirty eight local businesses sponsored WCAA artists to design and decorate fold-up Adirondack Chairs. Just like our Wayne Deer Games in 2004, our artists' creations were at their business locations throughout the summer of 2005. On August 6th at the Texas No. 4 Firehall, the WCAA held the County Seats Auction where all chairs were auctioned off to the highest bidder. Thanks goes out to Ellen Silberlicht and all our volunteers. And our wonderful auctioneer, Bob Mermell. And last but definitely not least, everyone who loved our chairs as much as we did and took one home with them! Click here to view pictures of the chairs.

What would we do without our volunteers?

Second Season of Movie Nights:

On Tuesday nights throughout the month of June, the WCAA sponsored their Second Season of Movie Nights available free to the membership. This was a five star line up! Movies shown covered the genres from documentary, comedy, drama, foreign, and even Jay's short homemade film. We'd like to thank all who participated. Many thanks to Frances Gruber and especially Dorflinger for allowing us to use their Blough Building.

The WCAA LibraryFest Art Show and Sale was held on the grounds of the Wayne County Library on May 28th, 2005 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fifteen local artists displayed their work under the tent space donated by the Library. Memorial Day Weekend, deemed Arts and Antiques Weekend by the Greater Honesdale Partnership, brought quite a crowd through Honesdale and also some wonderful weather. WCAA saw hundreds of residents and tourists come to enjoy our show, music, sidewalk chalk, fun for the kids, and a bake sale by the Library. This was a huge success and we plan on making it an annual event.

Third Annual International Foodtasting:

On May 15, 2005, the WCAA sponsored their Third Annual International Foodtasting that was held at the United Methodist Church in Honesdale. This year we saw approximately 350 people come out and support our event. We'd like to thank all the cooks and volunteers that participated. And especially our event coordinator, John Kascht.
